One line
Dactylo is a typewriter for the Mac and iPad: a whole 3D machine with real sounds, ink and paper, and a manuscript that is ready for publishers.
One paragraph
Dactylo turns a Mac or an iPad into a real typewriter. A complete machine, drawn in three dimensions, types every letter with its own typebar; the carriage steps along, the bell rings seven letters before the margin and the sounds are recordings of a 1960s portable. Writers choose the paper, the ink and the typeface, drag the margin stops, switch to red ink with a lever and keep whole books in folders of pages synced through iCloud. When the draft is done, Dactylo exports a standard manuscript for agents and editors as PDF or Word. There is no account and no subscription, and the app collects no data.
