§ ·Manuscript and export

Exporting

PDF of typed pages, standard manuscript, Word, Markdown and plain text.

Export a folder from its menu in the library, or the page in the machine's folder from the Export key. Choose whether to include the folders inside it.

Format What you get
PDF (typed pages) Every page exactly as it looks on the machine: paper, ink colours, typeface, styles, and the page header if it is on.
Manuscript for publishers (PDF) The standard manuscript format agents and editors expect. See Manuscript for publishers.
Word (.docx) The same standard manuscript, as a Word document.
Markdown (.md) Clean text with **bold**, *italic* and underline, a heading for each folder.
Plain text (.txt) Just the words.

Lines and paragraphs

On a typewriter you press Return at the end of every line. Dactylo knows which line ends were only the edge of the paper and joins them into paragraphs for the manuscript, Word, Markdown and plain text. If you'd rather keep every line as typed in Markdown, text and Word, turn off Settings › For Publishers › Flowing Paragraphs. The PDF of typed pages always keeps the lines as typed.

Struck-out letters

Letters crossed out in Draft Mode are left out of the manuscript, Word, Markdown and text. The PDF of typed pages shows them struck out, as on the paper.
