Margins and line spacing
Drag the margin stops, choose the paper size and the line spacing.
Dragging the margins
With the guides on (⇧⌘G), the ruler on the paper has a small red arrow at each end. Drag an arrow to move that margin a column at a time. On the machine you can also drag the red stops on the carriage rack behind the paper, as on a real typewriter. In the Manuscript view, the ruler of every page has the same arrows.
When you let go, the text is laid out again for the new line length. Nothing is lost and every page keeps its title, date and look.
Margins can't go below 5 mm, and a line always keeps at least 20 letters.
To go back to the paper's own margins, open Settings › Paper › Margins and press Reset.
Paper size
Settings › Paper › Paper Size: A4, US Letter, US Legal or A5. The number of letters to a line and lines to a sheet follows from the paper, your margins and the line spacing. The paper size is the same for all pages.
Line spacing
Settings › Paper › Line Spacing, like the line-space lever on a typewriter:
| Choice | Lines to an inch |
|---|---|
| Single | 6 |
| One and a Half | 4 |
| Double | 3 |
The manuscript, All Pages and the PDF of typed pages keep the same spacing. A standard manuscript for publishers is always double spaced.
The bail rollers
The two rubber rollers on the paper bail slide along their rod: drag them where you like.
