Paper: tone, texture, lines and stance
Choose the sheet for every page, and how it stands above the platen.
The tone, texture, lines and typeface belong to the page in the machine: every page keeps its own, and a new page starts like the one before it. Change them in Settings › Paper or from the Ink key.
Tone
Light, Sepia or Dark paper, or a tone of your own under My Colours. On dark paper, inks turn light.
Texture
| Texture | Looks like |
|---|---|
| Plain | Clean white bond |
| Cotton | Soft rag paper with a faint weave |
| Laid | The fine ribbed lines of laid paper |
| Aged | Yellowed, darker at the edges |
| Kraft | Brown wrapping paper |
| Onionskin | Thin, translucent copy paper |
Lines
No Lines, Lined, Lined with Margin (a red margin line on the left), Legal Pad (yellow, with a double red margin) or Letter Grid (a faint cell for every letter). Each line sits under a typing line.
Stance
Settings › Paper › Paper Stance decides how the sheet stands above the platen:
- Upright: the sheet rises straight from the platen.
- Leaning Back: as more of the sheet comes out, it leans gently back.
- Like Real Paper: the free end bends back under its own weight, more the longer it gets.
The same look everywhere
The paper shows on the machine, in the manuscript, in All Pages and in the PDF of typed pages. A standard manuscript for publishers is always plain white and unlined.
To give every page of a folder the look of the page in the machine, use Settings › Paper › Use This Look for All Pages.
