Sounds and background sounds
Four machines, six background sounds, and sounds in the manuscript.
Typewriter sounds
Turn them on or off in Settings › Typing › Typewriter Sounds or View › Typewriter Sounds. The sounds are recordings of a 1960s machine, played a little differently each time so they never sound like a loop.
Machine Sound gives the recordings a character:
| Machine | Sound |
|---|---|
| Portable | A light portable machine, crisp and quick |
| Office | A heavy desk machine: deeper strikes, a solid carriage return |
| Electric | The office machine with the hum of a motor |
| Quiet | Soft strikes for late nights |
Background sounds
Settings › Typing › Background Sound: Rain, Fireplace, Wind, Record Crackle, Deep Noise or Night, made inside the app as you listen (no recordings, no loops), at the Background Volume you choose. With Only While a Session Runs, the background starts with a writing session and stops when it ends.
In the manuscript
Settings › Manuscript › Typewriter Sounds plays the keys, space bar, carriage return and bell while you type in the Manuscript view too.
