§ ·Paper and ink
Typefaces and the look of the ink
Five typewriter faces, ink density, edges, uneven strikes and a ribbon that wears.
Typeface
Settings › Type and Ink › Typeface:
| Typeface | Character |
|---|---|
| Courier Prime | The classic typewriter face, crisp and clear |
| TT2020 | A worn, inky typewriter face |
| Cutive Mono | Thin and elegant |
| Space Mono | A sixties office machine |
| Inconsolata | Modern and clean |
The typeface belongs to the page, like its paper.
Ink
- Ink Density: five levels, from a dry ribbon to a fresh one.
- Ink Edge: Crisp (sharp, clean letters), Soft (the ink bleeds a little into the paper) or Smudged (a heavy, inky ribbon).
- Uneven Strikes: each letter sits a hair higher or lower and lighter or darker, as on a real machine. Off: perfectly even.
- Ribbon Wears: the ink fades a step every few thousand words until you put in a new ribbon (Settings › Type and Ink › New Ribbon).
The same look is used in the manuscript and in the PDF of typed pages. A standard manuscript is always set in Courier, as editors expect.
