Dactylo on the iPad
Keyboards, touch, the hidden key column and Stage Manager.
A keyboard is best
Dactylo is made for writing, so a hardware keyboard (the Magic Keyboard, a Bluetooth keyboard or a keyboard folio) is the best way to type. The machine's keys follow your keyboard: as you type, Dactylo learns which letter each key makes, so even an unusual layout shows the right letters.
Touch
- Tap a key on the machine to type it. Tap the shift key, then a letter, for a capital.
- Drag the machine or the empty desk to turn it.
- Pinch to zoom in Whole Machine; drag with two fingers to move around. In Page and Desk, pinch to make the page or the keys smaller or larger.
- Drag the ink lever and the B / I / U sliders on the sides of the machine, or tap them.
- Drag the red arrows on the ruler to set the margins (see Margins and line spacing).
The key column
On the right edge there is a small handle. Tap it to slide the column of keys out; it slides away again ten seconds after your last touch, or as soon as you type. Tap Pin to keep it open.
Settings
On the iPad, Settings opens from the gear key at the bottom of the key column.
The app switcher
With the lock on, the app switcher shows a blank page instead of your writing.
